Tom Turner
Eagle River, AK
Known for his experimentations with color and light, Tom Turner is interested in the fracturing of vision and expectation. Working primarily within the landscape with subjects ranging from national parks to appropriated scientific illustrations, Turner seeks new ways of understanding the world through abstracting photographic imagery. Like work by, Hiroshi Sugimoto, James Welling, and Idris Khan, Turner’s lens-based work attempts to re-contextualize the image through the manipulation of time and space. A lens-based artist with a background in photojournalism Turner’s work has shown in publications such as Wired Photo, 4th International Photography Annual (INPHA 4), and Juxtapoz Art and Culture Magazine. Turner lives in Eagle River, Alaska where he teaches art and is inspired by the majestic landscape.
